Guide – Configuring Exchange Active Sync on HTC Hero Android Device

I decided this morning to test the Exchange ActiveSync connection on my HTC Hero. I went through the account settings and authenticated with the server successfully, specified the data I wanted to sync, and then, when it came to finalising the settings, it failed with the following error:
“Error
Failed to create the account. Please try again later.”
Great. Well, it definitely authenticated fine, so what’s the problem? A little further digging and I discovered that this was down to a security setting I use on my Exchange server which forces mobile ActiveSync users to specify a PIN number on their phone to add an additional layer of security on the phone. It seems the HTC Hero can’t deal with sending back your encrypted password. So, if you use SSL with your web-facing Exchange server, you won’t be able to connect without either turning off the mobile users password policy requirement, or, I assume, using a certified web certificate. Neither turning off SSL or turning off the password policy is a particularly good idea, and I daresay if you ask your IT department to do it they’ll laugh you out of their office (I know I would), so the best option would be to ask your IT admins to arrange for a web certificate. In the interests of covering all the options for this guide though, I’ll detail the method of excluding specific users from the password policy-
* Open Exchange System Manager
* Expand Global Settings and then right click on Mobile Services and choose Properties
* Click the Device Security button
* The “Enforce password on device” tick box is the culprit here, but it’s better to turn it off for one specific user rather than the whole domain, so push the Exceptions button
* Push Add and select the user you want added to the exception list
* Push OK three times to get back to Exchange System Manager and you’re done
OK, now that that’s out of the way, the following guide details the method for setting up Exchange ActiveSync on Android. It’s based on my HTC Hero, but it should be a similar process for other Android devices.
* Tap the Mail icon then tap “Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync”
* Enter your email address in the top field and your Active Directory password in the second field
* Tap “Manual Setup”
* Enter the full Exchange server gateway URL (or IP address) in to the “Server address” field (eg: mail.yourdomain.com)
* Enter your Active Directory domain, you’ll probably need to use the full domain name (eg: yourdomain.local). Your domain admin will be able to provide you with these details
* Enter your Active Directory username and password in the relevant boxes
* If your domain uses SSL (again, your domain admins will be able to tell you), make sure you tick the “This server requires an encrypted SSL connection”
* Click Next and the phone will say “Verifying account information…”
* If the connection succeeds, you’ll be asked to specify what you would like to synchronize from Mail, Contacts and Calendar. If it doesn’t succeed, you’ll probably have entered in some information incorrectly, go back and re-enter everything. If it still doesn’t work, contact your IT department
* Hit Finish Setup and the phone should begin to sync your mail
Hopefully, the Exchange SSL issue will be fixed in future updates, but I wouldn’t hold your breath on that.

How-To Spirit Jailbreak 3.1.3/3.1.2 All iPod Touches and iPhones on Windows/ Mac
how to jailbreak iOS4.1 – www.youtube.com spiritjb.com update: does not always work with itunes 9.1.1, and 9.2 this is how to install cydia on iphone or ipod touch this is a video on how to jailbreak all ipod touches and iphones 3.1.2, 3.1.3 untethered using Spirit on windows and a mac Hey Guys this is GeekisCarnage and today Im going to show you how to jailbreak your ipod touch or iphone. this also jailbreaks the Ipad but Ill have another video for that. This jailbreak is called Spirit. Its very simple and fast. Spirit jailbreaks 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 running on all iphone and ipod touches. That includes the mc model and new iboot users. This is a untethered jailbreak. If you currently are using a tethered jailbreak, you have to restore to use Spirit. Do not upgrade if you use an unlock on an iPhone 3G or 3GS. (You can, however, restore to 3.1.2 if you have SHSH blobs for that version backed up.) So For Iphone users this is not a unlock, its just a jailbreak. and your iphone must activated with a legit carrier for this to work. So for those in the US you must activate with at&t works Any version of iTunes 9 I recommend that before you jailbreak you back up, restore to a fresh firmware and sync with itunes. This works with both the mac and windows. For those of you using a windows pc that run into a error its been said to just right click the spirit app and go to properties and click the compatibility and change it to windows 95 or 98. then right click and run as administrator …

Flash Drive Not Detected? Solution is Here

There can be several reasons for Flash Drives not being detected by your computer.
First your computer is not able to provide drivers for your Flash Drive. Now, for your information, you do not need to install any drivers from outside if you are using Windows 2000 SP4,Windows XP or Windows Vista as they come with native support for these devices.
If you are thinking that you are already using one of these versions of windows still your computer is not able to mount your Flash Drive. Don’t worry, that’s why I am writing this article. Just read on…
If your are not on one of these Windows version then your problem can be easily resolved by just installing the drivers which you get on a disc that comes with your Flash Drive. If you did not receive any disc, try checking out the manufacturer’s website and it should be there for sure. If still no luck, then try contacting me….
Remember, everything is explained here assuming that you are on Windows XP but need not worry as other Windows like Vista should work the same way.
Let’s come back to the topic..
There are several possible reasons for Flash Drives not mounting on your computer. Mentioned below are few of them:
Drive Letter Conflict
Flash Drive not formatted properly
Windows require some patch or update
Problem with the USB port
Physical connection problem
So, let’s start with the first one, that is, drive letter conflict.
Now, this can be the problem when you are trying to use your Flash Drive in a network environment. The best possible solution to this problem is to change the drive letter assigned to Flash Drive. This can be done by going to Disk Management and right clicking on Removable Drive and then clicking on Change Drive Letter. You can select any drive letter which is not assigned by windows to any drive or partition in any computer inside a network. Also, before changing the drive letter it’s recommended to check if your Flash Drive is showing in Device Manager under Disk Drives. If it’s not there that problem can be something else.
If changing Drive Letters does not help and drive is showing in Device Manager then probably you should try disconnecting that computer from the network by taking out the network cable or if you are inside a corporate environment then try contacting you IT deptt to know the drive letter not being used anywhere.
Let’s talk about the second scenario. If the drive is not formatted properly that means that it’s mounting up and being detected by the computer as well. It’s just would be giving a message to Format the Drive when trying to access it. This can happen if the File System has corrupted on Flash Drive or its not formatted in the supported format. For example, if you are trying to use a Flash Drive formatted in Ext2 file system in Windows Computer. The only solution to this problem is to format the drive in the supported format. For windows you should always format the drive in Fat or Fat32 and in Macintosh you should use MSDOS as this will also be supported by Windows computer. Please note formatting the Drive will ERASE all data. So, if you have any important data kindly try using a different computer to see if drive works or contact a Data Recovery company. If you want some reference kindly leave a comment.
Also, if you are not able to format the Flash Drive, please try using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. It’s made by HP but works on generally all Flash Drives.
Now let’s talk about problems that can happen because of any updates or patches. No matter if you have the latest service pack for your Vista or XP computer. Still, there are few updates or rather say patches which need to be installed if you face any such problem.
Vista Patch
Please find the link to Vista Patch at the end of this article.
As per Microsoft the patch will fix the following issues:
” When the computer resumes from a suspend state or from a hibernation state, the computer stops responding. Additionally, you receive a “0×9F” stop message on a blue screen.
” The computer takes a long time to resume from a suspend state or from a hibernation state.
” The computer takes a long time to resume from a suspend state or from a hibernation state when you use a VIA controller.
” The computer stops responding when you use an Authentic USB fingerprint reader. Additionally, you receive a “0xFE” Stop error on a blue screen or a “0×9F” Stop error on a blue screen.
” The computer stops responding when you use a USB Bluetooth audio device.
” The computer takes a long time to resume from a suspend state or from a hibernation state when you use an Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) controller.
” The computer stops responding when you remove a USB device. Additionally, you receive a “0xFE” Stop error on a blue screen.
” When a computer resumes from a suspend state or from a hibernation state multiple times, you receive a “0xFE” Stop error on a blue screen.
So go and install this even if you are facing a different problem related to but not similar to this.
Another patch for XP Service Pack 1 is also include at the bottom.
There are chances of problems with USB ports as well which happens rarely but the possibility is still there. The best way to identify is to attach any other USB device on the same port and check if that device works or not. For Example, USB Printer. Also of you are using a Desktop and inserting the drive in some front USB port then try using some port at the back.
Here , I would like to add one more point. If you have a high capacity drive like 8 GB and you are trying to use it on an old computer then due to inadequate power support the drive may not mount properly.
Sometimes, even if the icon for Removable disc appears under My Computer, the drive may not work properly as the complete capacity will not be mounted in case of inadequate power. You can check this by right clicking on Removable Disc and then clicking on Properties. If one this window, both free and used space is showing 0 KB then this can be the possible problem. In order to fix any issues related to inadequate power supply you can purchase USB Power Hub from any computer store and attach it to the USB port. What it does is that it will convert the low power supplied by USB port to little high power.
But, remember this problem generally happens in case of old computers. Before purchasing USB power hub, you can also try the back port of your computer if you are on Desktop.
And Last but not the Least, improper physical connection is the general cause for Drives not getting detected. This may happen if USB port or connector on Flash Drive has bent or physically damaged due to which drive is not able to make a contact with pins on USB port. In this case, you should also look the inside area of port or connector and if any damage found please take it to some local technician of Drive manufacturer to get it fix.
So, this was my first article. Any feedback will be appreciated.
Thanks

Why do my Burned CDs not Play in my CD Player?

So you just burned a mix CD of your favorite tunes for a road trip you and your friends are going on. You play the disc back on your computer, everything works like a charm. You might have even tried playing it back on your new home stereo, and just like on your computer, it plays fine. You head out, pop the CD into your car stereo you bought in 1998, and………nothing. The disc just spins and you get no playback. I’ve had this happen to me on numerous occasions. And have always wondered, why does my CD play on some players yet not on others? There are a few different things that factor into this.
1. CD-R vs. CD-RW.
You should be burning your audio CDs to CD-R media, not CD-RW media (CD re-writable). Some newer players will play CD-RW discs. But for the most part, the majority of audio CD players will only play CD-R discs.
2. Burn speed.
Each brand of CD-R has a certified maximum burn speed, which is expressed as a multiple of the audio playback speed. So, a disc certified at 24x can be burnt at 24 times faster than the audio CD will be spinning when it is played. You must set the burn rate in your CD duplication software according to the disc’s specification, or the data will not be written reliably. This can result in skips, or CD-Rs that will play to a certain point and then just stop. Ideally you want to burn your CD lower than the certified speed, to take into account manufacturing defects in your burner or the disc.
3. Brand of CD-R
If you have been burning CDs for a while, you probably have noticed that some brands of CD-Rs work well in some players, and some do not. CD-R discs are said to be “burned”. When you burn a CD-R disc, a focused laser beam darkens the chemical dye on your disc to mimic the bumps and flat spots that are generated on a replicated disc. (For more info on the differences between burning (CD duplication) and pressing (CD replication), please read my last article.
http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Differences-Between-Short-Run-And-Long-Run-Cd-And-Dvd-Duplication-And-Replication&id=158412 )
Unfortunately, sometimes the mimicry is not perfect. And if you have an older CD player that was not designed to play CD-Rs, it will not always play them reliably.
By all means this is not a complete guide for troubleshooting your CD burning problems. But it should at least give you a little more insight into why those darn mix CDs you burned will not play in your home or car stereo! My best advice is that you burn your CDs according to the certified maximum burn speed (lower if possible), and try out different brands of CD media until you find one that works best in your player.
