The Written Tutorial: 1) Make a backup in iTunes incase it gos wrong! 2) Download your .ipsw from the link below and download Redsn0w for windows or mac. 3) Plug your iDevice in but turn it off and make sure iTunes is closed. 4) Run Redsn0w and browse for the .ipsw file. Select Next 5) Press Next 6) Put it into DFU mode the way it says to. 7) Watch it install the jailbreak but don’t unplug it until it’s finnished. 
Reboot your iDevice 9) Now It’s Finnished! How to make iTunes recognize your iPod or iPhone! No restore! (TURN ON ANNOTATIONS)
ATTENTION: I cannot guarantee this will fix the problem. There are many different reasons iTunes won’t recognize that your iDevice is plugged in. This seems to work when nothing else will. I understand this can be frustrating, but please don’t thumbs down the video if this solution doesn’t work for you. It has helped many people and I don’t the dislikes to discourage anyone who finds this video. Do exactly as I do in the video. Make sure you have iTunes installed (obviously) and your iPod is plugged in. Ask any questions you have so I can update the description. Please note that there are a few important annotations, so you should turn annotations on for this video. I don’t know how to do this on a Mac.
